With your application: Include 3 example photos, slides or a website link of your artwork with your application. All three paintings must be original art created by you and available for purchase. Two of the paintings must be Plein Air paintings, the third may be any artwork of your choice.

By submitting an application for the "Paint Herndon" Plein Air Competition, the artist agrees that if selected, he/she will participate in both the plein air competition and the exhibit. The artist will supply their own canvases and materials. The artist further agrees that ArtSpace Herndon and the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts may use images of the artists working and artworks featured in the exhibit for promotional purposes. All paintings completed during the event or featured in the exhibit will be available for sale at a price of the artist's choosing unless marked "not for sale". The artist further agrees not to sell any work created during the event unless they pay a 25% commission to the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts.

Art selected by a private jury will hang in a preview exhibit over the weekend and will remain hanging in the gallery for the month of September. Artists are responsible for insuring and shipping your own artwork.

COMPETITION:
Artists selected by private jury are eligible to compete for over $2000 in prizes. To be considered for competition: All work must be done "en plein air" without the assistance of photography on stamped canvases.

Please supply your own canvases up to 36"x36", which will be stamped at check-in at ArtSpace Herndon, 750 Center Street, Herndon VA over the weekend. Freshly completed paintings must be delievered ready to hang to ArtSpace between 5pm and 8pm on Sunday August 31st .

PAINTING:
Participating artists are encouraged to set-up and paint anywhere withing the town limits of Herndon to capture small town America in the 21st century. From the historic downtown businesses and residences to the ball fields and parks, artists will be interpreting Herndon's unique surroundings; it's life and vitality. Artists should be respectful and agree not to obstruct traffic or pedestrians by painting in the streets or blocking sidewalks, business entrances, trails, or pathways.

QUICK SKETCH:
The quick sketch competition is open to all artists. Come paint, show your skills and sell paintings with the help of our docents on Monday, September 1, 2008 on the Town Hall Green at the intersection of Elden and Lynne Street. "Quick Sketch" canvas stamping begins at 11:00am on Monday. Paint anywhere within the Town of Herndon. Return your paintings on their easels to the lawn before 3pm to be included in the quick sketch judging. A variety of prizes donated by area businesses will be awarded.

EXHIBIT:
Up to three newly completed works by the artists selected to participate in the "Paint Herndon" Plein Air Competition will be exhibited beginning Saturday, August 31st. These paintings will be added to those already included in the preview exhibit.

Artwork can be delivered at check-in by the artists or mailed to the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts at PO Box 916, Herndon, VA 20170. Artists assume all responsibility for paintings in transit. Artwork will remain on exhibit through September 28th. Artists agree to pick up their paintings on Monday, September 29th by 12:00 noon or arrange and pay the cost of return shipping. Artists agree that sold paintings will be replenished promptly.

SALES:
25% of the proceeds from all paintings sold during these events will be donated go to the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts to help host future events, help the foundation thrive and create additional opportunities to support you (the artists) and the community of art lovers. The "Paint Herndon" Plein Air Event is made possible by countless volunteers who work long hours to help promote the event and indirectly, your work.

SCHEDULE:
Unless otherwise stated, all activities listed below take place at the Artspace Herndon, 750 Center Street, Herndon VA. The "Old Town Hall Green" is located at the corner of Lynn street and Elden Street in historic Herndon next to the old train depot.

FRIDAY August 29th
- 10am - 6pm: Check-in at Artspace, 750 Center St, Herndon
- 2 Pieces of previously completed art by each competing artist will hang in gallery during weekend "Preview"

SATURDAY August 30th - SUNDAY 31st
- 10am - 6pm: ArtSpace Gallery Open for "Preview" Exhibit (Check-in Continues)
- Sunday 6pm - 8pm: Artists Submit Art for Competition (Must be framed and ready to hang. Artspace gallery will be closed to artists and public during this time to hang art for Monday's judging and month long exhibit! )

MONDAY September 1st:
- 10am - 9pm: ArtSpace Gallery Open (Check-in Continues)
- 11am: Canvas stamping begins for Quick-Sketch
- 3pm: Quick Sketch Judging on Old Town Hall Green (Artists set up paintings on your easels here in advance)
- 10am - 6pm: Herndon Jazz & Wine Festival takes place on Lynn Street
- 6:30pm: Announcement of Competition Winners and Prizes given out at ArtSpace

I have read and understand the rules, schedule and fees associated with the "Paint Herndon" competition and related events. I understand that I must insure my own artwork and will not hold Herndon Foundation for the cultural arts, any of its officers or volunteers responsible for any loss theft or damages.
