ArtSpace Herndon — A Home for the Arts in the Heart of Herndon

Today

ArtSpace Herndon is a community art gallery created and supported by art lovers in the greater Herndon area providing opportunities for local artists and photographers to exhibit their art, teach classes, and offer workshops. As a gathering place celebrating the arts, ArtSpace Herndon is also a showcase for performers.  ArtSpace Herndon is attracting artists and performers at local, national, and international levels.

ArtSpace Herndon, located in historic downtown Herndon, features a 1,700 square foot Post Gallery where eight to ten new visual art shows exhibit each year. A reception held during each exhibit provides the public with an opportunity to meet the artists.  Each year ArtSpace Herndon hosts several art competitions: Fine Art Photography, Portraits, and Herndon Town Calendar.

ArtSpace Herndon has two classrooms. Local artists hold classes and workshops for adults, teens, and children. Classes in watercolors, oil, acrylics, and sketching are held regularly. Gallery and classroom space is provided free of charge to school and community groups, like the Herndon Towne Square Singers for rehearsals.  The gallery and classrooms may also be rented for private receptions and business gatherings.

In addition to exhibits, art and entertainment events are held at ArtSpace Herndon throughout the year, like the annual New Year’s Eve Celebration.

The Artisans Gallery Shop, added in 2010, expands ArtSpace Herndon’s ability to serve the community. Vetted artists and artisans offer handcrafted Herndon-themed items for sale.

ArtSpace Herndon relies on the generous support of citizens, businesses and organizations.  Your support is encouraged and appreciated!

History

ArtSpace Herndon was created by the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts. Establishing ArtSpace Herndon was the Foundation’s first step in a mission to promote and support the arts through the creation of a full-scale arts center in Historic Downtown Herndon. The Foundation raised private funds and renovated a Town-owned building for use as an interim arts center.  ArtSpace Herndon opened Labor Day weekend 2008.

The Future

The Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts’ mission is to establish and sustain an Arts Center through leadership, advocacy, fund raising, programming, policy setting and operation.  The Foundation’s vision is for the Arts Center to be a gathering place in historic downtown Herndon and to be a centerpiece of the community with artistic performances, exhibits, and educational opportunities. By making art accessible and exciting, the Foundation not only provides “A Home for the Arts in the Heart of Herndon,” but also raises Herndon and Fairfax County residents’ level of consciousness about the value of art in their lives.

The Foundation continues to work actively to fulfill its’ vision to create a new arts center in downtown Herndon bringing together the visual and performing arts. The Foundation has worked closely with the Town of Herndon a master plan: identifying the location for the future arts center and updating the concept for a new building.  This concept includes an art gallery, a 230-seat theater, classrooms, support areas, commercial spaces for arts related businesses, and a community hall.

The Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts was founded as an all-volunteer non-profit organization in 2003 and currently consists of a small staff and many dedicated volunteers.
