5th Annual Portrait Exhibit

Exhibiting Tuesday, October 1 through Sunday November 3, 2013

ArtSpace Herndon presents the 5th Annual Portrait Exhibit.  The exhibit includes the 25 portraits from 22 finalists from the ArtSpace Herndon’s annual portrait competition.  Jurors Ellen Todd and Jordan Xu evaluated the entries from 77 artists and selected the finalists.

Judge Ted Reed announced the winners of the competition at the Reception and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 5.  The first place winner received a $500 prize.  $200 was awarded to the second place winner, and $100 was awarded to the third place winner.

Professional and amateur artists aged 18 or older residing in Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Delaware, and West Virginia were invited to submit entries to the competition.  77 artists submitted 138 entries.

Competition judge Ted Reed. Edward J. Reed is a critically acclaimed, international-award-winning artist who teaches portrait, figure, and still-life painting.  The Ratner Museum features his work in its permanent collection, and he juries numerous national and regional art competitions.  His work has appeared in The Washington Post, Artist’s Magazine, American Artist Magazine, The Art of the Portrait Magazine, and International Artist Magazine’s Master’s Showcase, among others.

The jurors for this year’s competition are Jordan Xu and Ellen Todd. Jordan Xu is a classical portrait and landscape painter with a passion for vibrant, luminous colors.  He currently lives in Lovettsville, VA. Ellen Wiley Todd is associate professor of Art History, Cultural Studies and Women and Gender Studies in the Department of History and Art History at George Mason University.
