Calls for Art

The Visual Arts Programming Committee is soliciting proposals from experienced artists for exhibits in the Nelson J. and Katherine Friant Post Gallery.

Exhibition Programming Policy

ArtSpace Herndon is committed to showcasing fine art by locally, nationally, and internationally known artists.  Proposals are accepted from artists, 18 years or older, who have not had a solo exhibit or been in a group exhibit in the last two years.  All artwork must be original and artwork previously exhibited at the gallery is ineligible. Artists who are actively working as visual artists are encouraged to apply for upcoming exhibits.

Fine art paintings, mixed media, photography, sculpture, drawings, printing, graphic design, new media, installation art, and fiber arts can be displayed in exhibits.  Artists are expected to give a gallery talk during an opening reception and promote the exhibit among their patrons.  ArtSpace Herndon produces the exhibit, provides marketing support and installation services, and handles sales.

The quality of the artwork and theme of the show are the primary considerations in selecting which artists will exhibit, along with the overall scope and focus of the gallery’s exhibit schedule.

Proposal Submission by Artists seeking Solo Exhibitions

The VAPC encourages artists to submit a complete proposal for an exhibition.  Materials include jpegs of recent work for consideration in solo exhibit programming.  Artistic quality, attention to administrative detail, and overall professionalism of the proposal are deciding factors in selecting exhibitions.

Selection Process

Review of materials is done by the VAPC throughout the year.  Artists will be notified via email if a suitable opportunity arises.  Annual programming is developed over a year in advance with an agenda for range and balance, so artists typically wait for a period of time before being contacted.  Please do not contact the gallery regarding your submission status.

Proposal Submission for Thematic Group Exhibitions

The VAPC encourages small groups of up to four artists to submit a complete proposal for a thematic group exhibitions that explores a single concept in depth. The VAPC recommends that an individual serve as the group’s coordinator, gathering materials and submitting the proposal. Preferably the coordinator is not one of the artists. Artistic quality, attention to administrative detail, and overall professionalism of the proposal are deciding factors in selecting exhibitions.

Selection Process

Review of materials is done by the VAPC throughout the year. The coordinator will be notified via email if a suitable opportunity arises.  This may require a waiting period since the annual programming is developed over a year in advance with an agenda for range and balance.  Please do not contact the gallery regarding your submission status.

ArtSpace Herndon presents

the 7th Annual Herndon Town Calendar Photography Competition.

Professional and amateur photographers are invited to submit entries to the Herndon Town Calendar Photo Competition; the deadline for submissions is June 6, 2016 at 4 p.m.  Subjects for all entries must be located within the corporate limits of the Town of Herndon, and special consideration will be given to entries depicting people, representative of Herndon’s rich diversity and many cultures, participating in seasonal or community events.

A select panel of jurors will evaluate photographs submitted to the competition and select the finalists. Finalists are invited to exhibit in ArtSpace Herndon’s Post Gallery. From the finalist photographs, the Town of Herndon selects photographs for the 2018 Herndon Town Calendar.  Each year in December, more than 7,000 calendars are printed and distributed to all citizens and businesses throughout the town.  In addition to the exhibit and publication in the calendar, finalist photographs are eligible to receive the Herndon Town Calendar People’s Choice Award, given to the photograph best representing Herndon.
